The season starts in mid July and ends around the first week in October. The first 5 to 6 weeks are comprised of practices 2 days a week. Near the end of August, games are started. When games start (usually 2 per week) coaches are encouraged to allow equal opportunity for all players to play and scores are not to be kept. The focus should be on the development of skills, not winning a game. Depending on the number of teams and the coach’s discretion, there may be practices on non-game days. In the past, this program has been run on the same 2 days with all groups, but as the program continues to grow changes may have to be made. |

Wind Gap Thunder Soccer is a member of the Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer Association (EPYSA), which oversees the development and competition of youth soccer in the eastern half of the state. Our travel program, the Wind Gap Thunder, is a part of two leagues; Blue Mountain Youth Soccer League (BMYSL) and Lehigh Valley Youth Soccer League (LVYSL). Wind Gap Soccer is a founding member of the BMYSL since 1981 and has been accepted into the LVYSL in 2007. Both BMYSL and LVYSL promote the development of skills and sportsmanlike conduct amongst its players, coaches and parents. The BMYSL provides a 'competitive/recreational' program for players from ages 7 through 16. BMYSL has a competitive fall season starting after Labor Day and culminating in a very popular Fall Tournament held the first weekend in November. The BMYSL encompasses the majority of Northampton County. The spring season is a non-competitive offering of co-ed scrimmages held at Moore Township. For more information about the BMYSL, check out their website at www.bmysl.org. The LVYSL provides a 'competitive/travel' program for players ages 7 through 16. LVYSL has competitive seasons in both the fall and spring. The LVYSL encompasses a broader region, including Northampton, Carbon and Lehigh Counties. Beginning in the spring of 2007, Wind Gap Soccer has begun participation in the LVYSL spring season on a limited basis. For more information about the LVYSL, check out their website at www.lvysl.org. In 2007, Wind Gap Soccer has developed its own short-sided spring scrimmages to continue the development of skills for its players who wish not to participate in LVYSL travel competition.
